The Metropolitan Transit Agency announced Friday it will increase train fares by 3.5 per cent as of Jan. 1.
The hike has been approved by the Montreal Metropolitan Community, which oversees the MTA. The transit agency had initially proposed a 4.3-per-cent hike but the MMC deemed such an increase excessive.
The MTA also announced that as of Jan. 1, more students will be eligible for reduced train fares. Previously, the maximum age for reduced rates was 21; it will rise to 25.
In addition, the MTA said that as of Jan. 1 it expects to have completed work on 700 new parking spots at six stations – Sunnybrooke, Roxboro-Pierrefonds, Ste. Dorothée, Mont St. Hilaire, McMasterville and Delson.
